Hi everyone, and thank you for watching this reflective video. In it, I will discuss my experiences with interprofessional collaboration, offer advice, and suggest ways to improve teamwork. This experience envisions enhancements for a community mental health center, drawing inspiration from the case study.
Considering My Experiences with Interprofessional Collaboration
There were obstacles as well as successes in the collaboration experience. One noteworthy accomplishment was the team members’ dedication to patient care. We observed good communication, group decision-making, and a sincere desire to enhance mental health outcomes. Time constraints, communication failures, and the requirement for more thorough cultural competency presented difficulties, nevertheless.
Success Elements and Potential Improvement Areas
Let’s concentrate on the elements that made the case successful. Establishing a common objective, such as enhancing mental health outcomes for the varied patient population, was crucial. Team members from different disciplines worked together because they had this common goal, which served as a unifying drive. Regular team meetings and open lines of communication also made it easier for ideas and information to be shared.
As we now turn our attention to the areas that may have been addressed, time restrictions become apparent as a major obstacle. Dr. Kelly Connor, the psychologist, emphasized how little time and space psychotherapy sessions have. This hindered the best possible care for the patient by affecting the therapy relationship’s quality and depth. Enhancement is needed in the areas of cultural competence and coordination with external authorities.
Ineffective Resource Management and CollaborationIneffective teamwork can have a big impact on how resources are managed. According to Ansa et al. (2020), ineffective teamwork can lead to higher employee attrition and burnout as well as worse patient outcomes. In our instance, a lack of coordination led to redundant work, lost time, and potentially inadequate patient care—all of which may be costly in terms of both money and human resources.
The detrimental effects of inadequate teamwork are extensive. Ms. Lena Schmidt, the social worker, brought attention to the lack of resources available to patients undergoing social determinants of health. According to Ansa et al. (2020), this stresses the healthcare system and affects patient outcomes, most likely resulting in higher costs.
